Who runs an airport?
Who decides which plane goes where?
An airport runs on teams that rarely meet passengers: air traffic control sequences aircraft; the airport operator manages runways, gates and safety; the airline plans flights and crews; and ground handlers service the aircraft.
They keep in touch through shared systems and radios. A typical turnaround involves unloading, cleaning, catering, fuelling, loading, checking and boarding, all happening around the aircraft within a fixed time window.
A little deeper
On the airfield, vehicles follow marked routes and give way to aircraft. Separate operations centres handle security, baggage, terminals and de-icing in winter.
Procedures differ by airport and country; this is a typical picture, not a rule.
