How do airport screens work?
Why does the board change at the last minute?
The flight information display shows your flight, its status, the check-in desks and (usually from one to two hours before departure) the gate. Statuses like "Boarding" or "Final call" tell you what to do.
Behind the screens is a shared operations picture: airline, airport, ground handler and air traffic control exchange times so that gates, buses and crew are ready. Gate changes happen when aircraft arrive early or late.
A little deeper
Many airports use "Airport Collaborative Decision Making", where partners share target times for off-block and start-up. It reduces idle time with engines running and queues at runways.
A delayed arrival earlier in the day can delay yours, because the aircraft comes from somewhere else.
